  • Perry's eponymous fashion brand is pulling some of its shoes from sale TMZ is reporting

According to TMZ, the criticism has led to the styles being removed from the shelves of American retailers Dillard's and Walmart.

In the latest example of fashion stumbling over styles that resemble racist imagery, Katy Perry's shoe label pulled two potentially problematic pairs Monday from its online site, although they are still available at some major retailers.

Sources close to the singer tell TMZ that Katy designed the shoes in question, that is part of an entire line of shoes that were never meant to be offensive.

The new slip-on loafers are made to look like faces, with big red plastic lip pieces, a nose and eyes.

Boutier Vic Open win ends long French drought on LPGA Tour
Australia's Sarah Kemp shot the day's low round of 65, playing in the day's second group after starting the round tied for 35th. Boutier's victory in the women's section was a groundbreaker, too, for the 25-year-old from Paris of Thai extraction.

In the wake of the blackface scandal enveloping Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and other officials in the state, someone in Perry's camp chose to stop selling the shoes.

The black version specifically resembles historical blackface makeup.

"In order to be respectful and sensitive the team is in the process of pulling the shoes", the insider shared. "I am a Black man before I am a brand", he tweeted. He revealed he would be having a meeting in Harlem, N.Y., with Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri to discuss the situation.

The shoes raised eyebrows and even singer Masika Kalysha noticed them and said, "So we just gonna let Katy Perry slide?"
