Boutier Vic Open win ends long French drought on LPGA Tour

Law, who began the day three shots off overnight leader Ormsby, struck a brilliant approach to within 10 feet of the pin on the par-five 18th and coolly rolled in the eagle putt to pressure the leading Ormsby.

'This is just massive for me, ' said Law.

Boutier's victory in the women's section was a groundbreaker, too, for the 25-year-old from Paris of Thai extraction.

It was a day of firsts in the final round of the Vic Open at 13th Beach Golf Links on the Bellarine Peninsula near Melbourne with the men's victor, David Law, and the victor of the women's event, Celine Boutier, both winning for the first time on their respective tours.

Law carded a six-under-par 66 to be 18 under overall for his maiden European Tour title in Geelong, Victoria.

Around the same time a huge roar reverberated around the Barwon Heads links and it was a Scot who had caused it. David Law, 27, is an unheralded player in this part of the world, having spent five years on the secondary Challenge Tour trying to find his way on to the main European Tour.

Superstar Rajinikanth dancing at daughter Soundarya’s wedding is pure gold
The couple will tie the knot in the presence of their family members, bigwigs from politics, cinema and business magnets. Rajinikanth's dearest daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth tied the knot to Vishagan Vanangamudi in a lovely wedding recently.

That put him in a share of the lead with Ormsby at 18 under and when the home favourite made a double-bogey on the 17th, he needed an eagle of his own on the last to force a play-off. You know, to have won today, it sort of changes things a little bit. I'll go home, reflect a little bit on things and reassess.

The pioneering tournament, which is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the LPGA Tour, is the only one in the world with male and female fields, playing in alternate groups on the same course and for equal prize money.

"We said we were going to try to finish three-two-four in the hope that we could get a top-three finish".

"We stood on the tee and we said we need to make eagle", Law said after claiming the A$1.5 million ($1.06 million) winner's check.

Australia's Sarah Kemp shot the day's low round of 65, playing in the day's second group after starting the round tied for 35th.

Brad Kennedy finished at 17 under alongside Ormsby, one shot clear of South Africa's Justin Harding. "We make eagle, we post at 18 under, you never know what can happen". In the event of a tie in total top-10 finishes, the award will go to the player with the most official wins, followed by most second-place finishes, third-place finishes, etc., until the tie is broken. But no, I'm super excited with the way I handled myself. "I'm just so emotional right now".
