Brexit: Theresa May Begging MPs for More Time to Amend Her 'Deal'

"The government will commit that if the meaningful vote, in other words the deal coming back, has not happened by the 27th of February, then we would allow a further motion - votable in Parliament - to take place, to give that sense of assurance as to the process moving forward", he told the BBC's "Andrew Marr Show".

The deal reflects Switzerland's "mind the gap" strategy of ensuring seamless trade ties with Britain, regardless of whether London is able to strike and approve a formal exit agreement with Brussels by March 29, the date it is scheduled to leave.

Communities Secretary James Brokenshire said Sunday that Parliament would get to pass judgment on May's Brexit plan "by no later than February 27".

The UK has signed an agreement with Switzerland ensuring the trading relationship between the two nations will continue after Brexit, the British government said.

On Wednesday, Mrs May will ask MPs for more time to get legally-binding changes to the controversial Northern Irish backstop, which she believes will be enough to secure a majority in Parliament for her deal.

Labour has said it will seek to force Mrs May into a decisive second Commons showdown on her Brexit deal by the end of the month.

"You've got to decide which of those Brexits you want before we leave - otherwise, we're going to leave without clarity".

There are fewer than 50 days until Brexit.

Snow to arrive late Sunday in DC, could impact Monday morning commute
In Seattle, snowfall from Sunday and Monday lingered into the week as below-freezing temperatures gripped the area. In the Midwest, more than 148,000 customers lost power in western MI following days of freezing rain.

The British government is seeking to win more time to secure European Union concessions on Brexit that could pass parliament and avert a chaotic split from the bloc on March 29.

The wording of May's motion on Thursday, asking Parliament to back her negotiation, will be closely read.

May is seeking changes to her deal with Brussels after it was rejected by a record majority in parliament on January 15.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has written to the Prime Minister setting out five demands that would have to be met for his MPs to support a deal, including a permanent customs union and close alignment with the single market.

A number of government ministers will also be meeting their counterparts across the continent this week, in order to underline Mrs May's determination to achieve a deal.

"We would have a hard border, a very hard border, no-deal Brexit means a really hard border between the north and south of Ireland, contrary to the Good Friday Agreement and it would cause an enormous fissure within the United Kingdom".

However, the deal does not include financial services - the UK's most valuable asset - as there is no comprehensive agreement between Switzerland and the European Union on financial services.

But the Irish government and the European Union have repeatedly rejected calls for changes.
