Martha McCallum, who was interviewing Abramson, pressed her again, asking if perhaps Abramson forgot to insert footnotes into some areas of the book.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday evening, Abramson then fired off a series of poorly received tweets in her defense.
Abramson also says had ample time to review the sections of the book about it before publication.
This turned out to be only the tip of the iceberg that was to emerge in full a few days later.
While Abramson copped Thursday to some reckless attribution in the more than 500-page tome, she stopped short of admitting to plagiarism.
One of the passages cited by Moynihan is from a 2005 story in Ryerson Review of Journalism about Vice Media cofounder Gavin Miles: "In August 2003, McInnes wrote a column in The American Conservative, a magazine run by Pat Buchanan".
"Merchants of Truth" faults Vice for sexism and hypocrisy among other criticisms, and Vice in turn has taken on Abramson.
A Twitter thread posted Wednesday by Vice correspondent Michael C. Moynihan listed several examples of passages in Abramson's book that closely resembled the work of others.
When the book hit shelves, Moynihan uncovered multiple instances of what he describes as plagiarism.

Merchants of Truth looks at how journalism has changed over the last decade.
We'll update this post as more information becomes available. Abramson and her publisher promised to investigate. The syllabus for her "Journalism in the Age of Trump" class assigns Merchants of Truth as required reading.
Reporters and journalists expressed disappointment at the accusations.
As you might imagine, this didn't sit too well with some of the VICE journalists. And in several of these cases, the language is too close for comfort and should have been specifically cited in the footnotes correctly - I'll explain to you why they weren't - or put in quotations in the book.
"I was quite surprised and when I read the paragraph in question", Weeks said, "it was pretty obvious that she had just copied and pasted my work".
Abramson had defended herself by saying that her book includes extensive endnotes, including web links to sources. Yet, there "is no indication in the main text of the book showing which passages require attribution". In 2011, she made history as the first woman to be the Times' executive editor, but was sacked three years later amid repeated clashes with colleagues. It is widely believed that an outside source should be credited in the body of the work if there is a close similarity.
Maybe the publisher should reconsider their current pitch? He also did not agree with her explanation about footnotes that she gave in her apology.
"The attacks on my book from some @vicenews reflect their unhappiness with what I consider a balanced portrayal", she argued. On Wednesday, Michael Moynihan of Vice News claimed passages of the book were "often not true" or were "plagiarized".
This is the second round of flack aimed at the former Times editor's new book.
