Amid a national conversation and controversy surrounding US politicians pictured in blackface, "The View" co-host Joy Behar has been silent about a photo of herself now sweeping social media. Behar said that she had dressed up as "a lovely African woman". She said that the hair was her own and that she had dressed as a "beautiful African woman".

The clip of Behar is from an episode of "The View" years ago; it was re-shared by Jon Levine, media editor at The Wrap.

BB&T and SunTrust are joining to create new $66 billion bank
In December, BB&T said it was eliminating its Center City Allentown regional headquarters as well as positions held by Scott V. SunTrust was already the region's largest bank before the merger announcement, with about 21 percent of the area's deposits.

At the time, the only non-white co-host next to her was Raven-Symoné who seemed puzzled and kept questioning just what she was looking at since the photo was also shown to the studio audience. "Are you my auntie, Joy?" the star asks. Virginia's governor and attorney general are being criticized for their use of blackface. She said she didn't understand the controversy over Real Housewives of New York City's Luann de Lesseps, who wore a huge afro and darkened her skin to dress as Diana Ross for Halloween in 2017.

"That's my actual hair though", she said.

In the fall, NBC Today anchor Megyn Kelly was ousted from the network after defending blackface. "Joy, is that you, Joy?" she asked.

Representatives for Behar and ABC did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Gov. Ralph Northam has apologized but refuses to stand down after an image surfaced from his page in his medical school yearbook of a photo of a person in blackface and another in a Ku Klux Klan costume.

Critics are calling for co-host Joy Behar to be fired because of a 2016 clip from the show circulating on social media.
