At any rate, the success of EA's launch could simply go to show the huge popularity of battle royale games these days, and perhaps also reflects positively on the Titanfall universe - in which Apex Legends is set - to some extent.

Over the past two years, battle royale games seem to be at an endless supply. Instead, Respawn has made some tweaks to the tried-and-true battle royale formula for Apex Legends, like introducing a class system that's built around squad play. In other words, you're not just an anonymous grunt like in PUBG or Fortnite, but matches still take place on the same map where 60 players on teams of three fight to be the last ones standing. You can check out the cinematic debut trailer for Apex Legends, below.

Taking a page from games like Fortnite and Overwatch, Apex Legends sports both a colorful, stylized look, and lets players take control of one of eight unique "Legends", which you can no-doubt further customized with various skins and cosmetics. Respawn and EA say that the first season for Apex Legends will kick off in March, but at the moment, there aren't any additional details. The game is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Dominant New Zealand take Sydney Sevens men's and women's crowns
The defeat means Kenya pick only one point at Sydney 7s, their lowest of this lowest season to move to 12 points. While agonizing, another runner-up berth ensures the US continues its best ever start to a season.

"Our desire is to be completely open and transparent with our player base, and part of that expands to how we talk about problems, and we understand this game is gonna have a sceptical audience", McCoy said to Eurogamer's Emma Kent.

You can unlock these characters for free by playing a certain number of hours, or you can pay £5 and just skip ahead. Welcome to the next evolution of Battle Royale. Apparently not, judging from the reaction to the latest entry in the genre.
