Late last month MPs voted in favour of an amendment tabled by Sir Graham Brady to seek "alternative arrangements" to the Irish backstop after MPs rejected the Prime Minister's Brexit deal by historic margins last month.

Warnings of the consequences of a no-deal Brexit intensified last week as several multinational firms, including Airbus and Ford, said jobs could suffer with an unfavourable negotiating outcome.

"I'm determined to deliver Brexit, and determined to deliver on time - on March 29, 2019", she wrote.

May has promised MPs that she will bring any revised deal back to be voted on by MPs on February 13.

Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, the prime minister said she would return to Brussels with a "fresh mandate, new ideas and a renewed determination".

The backstop would kick in if Britain and the European Union have not agreed a trade deal on their future relationship after a time-limited transition period of up to two years.

UK MPs last week backed a call for May to return to Brussels to secure a new Brexit deal that puts "alternative arrangements" in place of the controversial backstop - a kind of insurance policy created to avoid a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic.

Britain is scheduled to leave the European Union on March 29, but United Kingdom politicians are divided over Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plan.

Li also claimed a shot back at the 18th to edge ahead of Lewis, who had started the day with five successive birdies. There was another birdie on No. 2, and a 30-foot eagle putt at the fourth.

Trade minister Liam Fox said it would be "irresponsible" for the European Union to refuse to reopen the Brexit negotiations. Fox told Sky News.

She continued: "That is what parliament instructed me to do on Tuesday night".

May's office denied a report in two Sunday newspapers that her advisors were considering a June election. "By a majority of 16, MPs said that, with changes to the Northern Ireland backstop, they would support the deal that I agreed with Brussels to take us out of the European Union".

May called an unexpected election at short notice in 2017, after which she lost her Conservative Party's small majority and had to rely on support from Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party to continue to govern.

On a visit to Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday, he said: "I don't think any MP will sell their votes in that way - that sort of bribery and corruption".

Javid said: "You can have no hard border on the island of Ireland and you can use existing technology, it is perfectly possible".

But the Irish deputy prime minister has said "there are no credible alternative arrangements" to the proposal.

The Tanaiste meanwhile, in an article in the Sunday Times insists there can be no withdrawal agreement without the backstop.
