How can it be so cold if there's global warming?

  • Trump mocks global warming in tweet amid Midwest chill

Donald Trump recently took to Twitter to address the frigid conditions that current set to hit the Midwest.

The NOAA Climate account tweeted a post Tuesday morning that featured a cartoon drawing and a link to a 2015 post debunking claims by climate change deniers who have pointed to winter storms as proof that global warming is a myth.

"In the handsome Midwest, windchill temperatures are reaching minus 60 degrees, the coldest ever recorded. People can't last outside even for minutes", he tweeted. What the hell is going on with Global Warming?

Just think... when the next probably-global-warming-induced ice age does come, everyone's last words before freezing to death will be: "I told you so!"

The statement was immediately bashed on the internet, with numerous social media users noting the president's misspelling of "global warming".

Once again, Trump is confusing weather with climate - the temperature outside in a given place at a given time says nothing about global temperature trends. It helps you control the global warming in your house and it works with WiFi.

As areas in the Midwest experience record-low temperatures this week, Donald Trump's latest misstatement about climate change has been widely mocked by Twitter users.

USA charges China's Huawei with bank fraud, stealing trade secrets
Whitaker and Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray both thanked Canadian officials for their help. The charges follow the December 1 arrest of Huawei CFO Wanzhou Meng, who faces the possibility of decades in jail.

There are many reasons Trump may be against addressing climate change, but one thing is clear: he doesn't understand the science behind it.

"Not only are severe snowstorms possible in a warming climate, they may even be more likely", the agency wrote. Or, to use an analogy Trump might appreciate, weather is how much money you have in your pocket today, whereas climate is your net worth.

The fact we are seeing record cold does not contradict climate research.

Parts of the U.S. are indeed facing some of the coldest temperatures the country's seen in a generation.

Despite Trump's assertion, CNN reported that 2016 was the hottest year on record, and the third consecutive year to rank hotter than all previous years, according to the World Meteorological Organization.

Today, climate change is commonly used as a term to describe the effects of global warming that have occurred as a result of human activity following the industrial revolution in the 18th century.
