  • Inslee declares state of emergency over Washington measles outbreak

Health officials say a suspected measles case in King County has been confirmed.

Thirty confirmed cases have been reported in Clark, while one has been reported in King County.

Public health officials in Washington say people may have been exposed to the risky disease at more than three dozen locations, including Portland International Airport, a Portland Trail Blazers game, an Amazon locker location and stores such as Costco and IKEA.

But measles is still a big problem in other parts of the world.

Although, no cases have yet been reported in B.C. related to the outbreak.

Last year, there were 17 outbreaks and about 350 cases of measles in the U.S.

Health officials warn he came in contact with hundreds of people.

A week off is a long time to go without the beloved sport, so filling in the missed time with the Pro Bowl is a yearly tradition. It was two-hand touch most of the day, with officials blowing plays dead at the slightest hint of contact.

The Washington Military Department, the release says, is organizing resources to assist the DOH and local officials in easing the effects on people, property and infrastructure. "Individuals at older ages, if they know they've never been vaccinated and never had measles, then obviously they are at risk". Only 77.4 percent of all public students there complete their vaccinations, according to state records cited by the Oregonian. The typical recommendations are that children should get two doses of MMR vaccine, the first between 12 to 15 months of age and the second between 4 and 6 years old.

Data on Portland's vaccination rate for both shots wasn't immediately available. One dose is about 93 percent effective.

They added the outbreak could still be in its infancy as the incubation period of the virus averages 14 days.

Officials have identified several locations in Auburn, Kent and Covington, including two crowded high school basketball games at Kentlake High School on January 10 and 12, visited by the infected person last week.

Every time an unvaccinated person who has been exposed to measles goes out in public, "it starts that clock over again", Armstrong said. Those people stayed home and later got ill, Armstrong said.

It can cause fever, running rose and watery, inflamed eyes along with small red spots with white or bluish centres in the mouth and a dusky red, blotchy rash that begins on the face and spreads according to the BCCDC. Common complications of measles include ear infection, pneumonia and diarrhea.
