Police in Davis, California say Friday that the suspect who they believe shot and killed rookie cop Natalie Corona has apparently committed suicide.

The Yolo County coroner said Saturday the man was 48-year-old Kevin Douglas Limbaugh.

"He wasn't on the radar as someone who was continuously calling in, expressing hate for us", Davis Police Spokesman, Lt. Paul Doroshov.

"The Davis Police department has been hitting me with ultra sonic (sic) waves meant to keep dogs from barking", the letter said.

The suspect went on to say in his note, "I notified the press, Internal Affairs, and even the FBI" and that "he can't live this way anymore". I am highly sensitive to its affect in my inner ear.

The handwritten note was signed "Citizen Kevin Limbaugh".

Davis police did not immediately respond Sunday to a telephone message seeking comment on whether Limbaugh had reported his claims to officials.

Police said a gunman on a bicycle ambushed the officer, shooting her as she investigated a vehicle accident, then reloaded and narrowly avoided wounding others before walking away.

Limbaugh was ordered last fall to surrender a semiautomatic rifle after he was convicted in a battery case.

"She came home and said, 'You know Dad, I had to take this person's bag of cereal and that was all they had to eat.' So, I put five dollars in his bag and told him that was going to be for when he got out, '" Jose Corona said. He rode up on a bicycle as she was investigating an accident scene and for no apparent reason, shot her repeatedly with a handgun.

Limbaugh dropped his backpack at the scene and information inside allowed police to trace him to a house about a block away. At one point, Limbaugh emerged from the home wearing a bulletproof vest and yelled at the officers before going back inside. He was later found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

After firing more shots, the gunman fled, eventually barricading himself in his nearby apartment and fatally shooting himself. She began her service with the department as a community service officer in 2016.

Corona was the first Davis police officer killed in the line of duty since Douglas Cantrill was gunned down September 7, 1959, the Bee reported.
