Sarah Thomas will become first woman to officiate an National Football League playoff game

When the Chargers face off against the Patriots on Sunday, it will be a history-making event, according to ABC 13. She was the first woman to ever officiate a college football bowl game.

On Sunday, Sarah Thomas, the NFL's first full-time female official will serve as a down judge during the AFC Divisional Playoff game.

She reached this milestone having become the NFL's first full-time female official when she was appointed in 2015.

The moves come on the heels of the of the National Basketball Association announcing that referees Ashley Moyer-Gleich and Natalie Sago would be promoted to full-time status back in November, becoming the fourth and fifth women in league history to reach that level.

The title of her position was recently changed from "head linesman" to "down judge" by Senior VP of NFL Officiating Al Riveron to be more inclusive. "So tucking my hair, I blend in and I'm just another official".

Thomas's career has been an ongoing blitz against sexism in the NFL.

Terri Valentini, the NFL's first female instant replay official, will also work the Indianapolis Colts-Kansas City Chiefs matchup on Saturday, marking her first postseason assignment. "Field presence is what they talk about", she said in an interview with SB Nation.
