  • Video shows bus driver rescuing baby wandering alone near road

So, she stopped the bus and got the child.

Police told WISN-TV the boy had been left outside by his mother, who they believed may have been suffering from a mental health crisis.

Authorities eventually reunited the baby girl with her father.

A Milwaukee bus driver rescued a barefoot baby boy running alone near a highway, clad only in a onesie in freezing temperatures.

She runs across the street and picks up the crying boy, who was making his way around a corner, bringing him on board her bus.

As Ivic called for help, a passenger gave up her coat to keep the girl warm before police and firefighters arrived. "I have my children too", Ivic said. When he saw the police gathered near his home, and noticed his daughter was not there, he ran outside.

She is expected to receive the remaining money left on her contract, which is reportedly in the neighborhood of $30 million. Kelly said it was acceptable when she was a kid to don black face "as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character".

The boy fell asleep in Ivic's arms, MCTS said.

The child was not injured in the incident and no charges have been filed in the case.

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and MCTS officials honored Irena Ivic for her actions a few weeks ago, all of which were recorded on the cameras from her bus. "I don't take that kind of compassion for granted". MCTS later learned the baby is less than a year old. "And if I find myself in the same situation again, I will, of course, help again".

This is the ninth lost or missing child who has been found by MCTS drivers in recent years.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story from the Associated Press identified the child as a boy.
