  • Toyota Wants 1.7 Million Vehicles Back Because Airbags Are ‘Potentially Deadly’

Twenty-three people have died worldwide due to airbag inflator problems. Lexus models include: the 2010 through 2012 ES 350, the 2010 through 2017 GX 460, the 2010 through 2015 IS 250C and 350C, the 2010 through 2013 IS 250 and 350 and the 2010 through 2014 IS-F.

The recall includes multiple Toyota, Scion and Lexus vehicles from the 2010 through 2017 model years.

Scion XBs from 2010 through 2015 have also been recalled.

The move announced Wednesday is part of the largest series of automotive recalls in US history.

Toyota is recalling 1.7 million vehicles in North America to replace potentially deadly airbga inflators.

In February 2018, the recall of vehicles affected by the faulty Takata airbags was made compulsory under law, with affected manufacturers required to replace all defective airbags by the end of 2020.

Apple plans to launch three new iPhone models this year, WSJ reports
Apple doesn't do CES , but Apple-related news and rumors usually dominate the biggest consumer electronics show of the year. The other two iPhone models will be the direct successors to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max phones , revealed a report .

Vehicle owners who are affected by the recall will be notified via mail in January. That's why inflators in the South along the Gulf of Mexico pose the greatest risks, according to the AP.

Dealerships will replace either the airbag inflators or entire airbag systems. In total, 19 automakers are recalling more than 100 million potentially faulty inflators worldwide.

The NHSTA has a VIN lookup that will let vehicle owners know if their auto has been recalled for any reason, including whether it is part of the Takata recall. Ford and Honda have already announced recalls.

The recalls forced Takata of Japan to seek bankruptcy protection and sell most of its assets to pay for the fixes.

Toyota has a search tool on its website where owners can either type in their license plate number or VIN or they can select the model and year of their vehicle to search whether they're impacted by the recall.
