'The Accidental Prime Minister': Bihar Court Orders FIR Against Actors, Director

  • The Accidental Prime Minister’ the Manmohan Singh biopic starring Anupam Kher in the titular role has been challenged in the Supreme Court as a piece of political propaganda intended to damage his reputation

The matter was mentioned for urgent listing before a bench headed by Justice A K Sikri which said the matter would come up for hearing in the regular course.

"They have released some film just before the election".

It is based on a book with the same title written by Sanjaya Baru, former Prime Minister Singh's media advisor. Ever since the trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister was released on YouTube, it has created a buzz in the industry. According to ANI, the court has now directed that an FIR be filed.

The appeal, filed through advocate A Maitri, has claimed that "at present if the film "The Accidental Prime Minister" is allowed to be released then it will cause unaccountable damage to the name and fame of the office of Prime Minster of India". In the name of this movie attempts are being made to distort facts. This is a movie which talks about modern Indian politics, made with unbelievable amount of brilliance by the directors and the producers and the cast is phenomenal. The actor is in top form and you wish that he does more films. "I do not endorse the kind of politics Congress does hence we parted ways several years back But, I will say that it is not in a good taste".

Apart from the political jibes, in Delhi, the youth wing of Shiromani Akali Dal urged cinemas not to show the film, saying it would defame both Manmohan Singh and the country across the world.
