  • Harry Wilson, Jack Clarke and Jayden Bogle have all impressed this season

But those excuses weren't going to fly with the Derby County manager.

United head coach Marcelo Bielsa is known to have used covert analysis of opposition training sessions during his time as coach of Newell's Old Boys in the 1990s but Leeds have as yet made no response to Derby's claims. "It doesn't matter if this is legal or illegal, or right or wrong. for me, it is enough that Frank Lampard and Derby felt it was not the right thing to do, for me to believe that I didn't behave well".

"I am the only one responsible for it, because I didn't ask for the permission of Leeds to do it".

The former Chelsea legend revealed that his team were working on: "team tactics, team shape, personnel, how we're going to press..."

"That's good. He said the same to me, so I'm pleased", said the Derby manager.

"So I think you look at all three of those games and you think, we can go away from home and play well and almost get a result against Chelsea and obviously win the other two games". "There is nothing wrong to try to find information and know a bit more about what the opponents are doing".

Despite the unsporting act, Bielsa is unlikely to face punishment from the club and lose his job.

Andre Wisdom's clumsy foul on Ezgjan Alioski 32 seconds in saw referee Andy Davies award Leeds a penalty, but a surprising offside flag came to Derby's rescue.

Derby travel to Championship leaders Leeds in a crucial top-of-the-table clash on Friday night and the local constabulary put out a tweet saying '#spyingischeating' after the incident.

In a statement released to Omnisport, an FA spokesperson said: "We are aware of the incident at Derby County's training ground and we will be investigating the matter".

Derby boss Frank Lampard gave his view on the matter in the build up to the match and was clearly not happy at the tactics.

'I think it makes it easier to deal with, because at least on a sportsman's level it's bad in my opinion. It's disrupted our preparations.

Earlier a Derbyshire Police statement had confirmed a man was removed from a position near the club's training ground.

'The fact that Harry Wilson wasn't training would have become very evident.

'We had somebody [spy on us] the first game we played against them, which we lost 4-1.
