After starting 2019 with back to back defeats, Liverpool will be looking to get back to winning ways and maintain their Premier League title challenge with a morale-boosting win over Brighton on Saturday evening.

The Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolves on Monday, losing 2-1 after Klopp started youngsters Rafael Camacho and Curtis Jones in a much-changed XI.

Joe Gomez is still sidelined with a lower leg fracture, but Matip participated in a team training session at Melwood on Thursday for the first time since fracturing his collarbone against Paris Saint-Germain last month.

'Joel trained yesterday for the first time with the team. We will see what that means. "We have to decide day by day".

'[Jordan] Henderson will train today for the first time.

Asked if Lovren's injury was serious, Klopp replied: 'I don't know. It's a muscle thing and I would expect him back maybe after Crystal Palace - I'm not sure.

"If Fabinho has to play as a centre-half what we want is the natural understanding of the game", Klopp told the pre-match press conference. "We speak in the week, but try to not make it more complicated than it is".

"If you have the full squad together it's massive, it's really good", he said of the lighter schedule.

Robertson has been phenomenal all season and is a guaranteed starter, if fit, but the Scottish global has to be used wisely when the games come thick and fast over the coming months, and it's the left-back area that could see Liverpool's vulnerability exploited, if they don't delve into the transfer market. Who deals the best with their problems has the most success. "That's my preferred rhythm, to be honest".
