Weather and technical issues forced multiple launch scrubs Tuesday, but…

  • This abort was triggered by the onboard Falcon 9 flight computer a SpaceX official said

Wednesday's launch window opens at 9:07 a.m. EST and is scheduled to last 26 minutes.

Though GPS III SV01 will assume its orbit around Earth this week, it will take several months for the new satellite to be integrated into the GPS constellation.

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will carry a new Global Positioning System satellite into orbit around Earth on Tuesday - the first of several launches scheduled for the day.

Then, just before 9:30am ET, after it had gotten to within 10 minutes of liftoff, SpaceX, scrubbed the launch attempt of its Falcon 9 rocket due to a first-stage propellant-temperature issue.

This initiative gained full support from the White House under President Bill Clinton's administration in 1998. That means civilian receivers capable of receiving the new signal will have more satellites to lock in on, improving accuracy.

Another space mission has already successfully launched today: The Indian Space Research Organisation successfully launched the GSAT-7A communications satellite at 5:40 a.m. EST (1040 GMT) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India.

The launch was canceled as another company was forced to abort a similar mission.

There's still another launch set for Wednesday, however. Blue Origin halted a launch from Texas because of "a ground infrastructure issue". The Space Command would be separate from Trump's plans for an independent military branch, Space Force, but could support those efforts, too. The mission launched on India's upgraded Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle and is the third launch for India in just over a month, according to the Times of India. Italy may even join in the near future.

If that wasn't enough, the launch of an Arianespace Soyuz-ST-A rocket with the CSO-1 defense satellite was also delayed (for 24 hours).

Before the scheduled launch time on Tuesday NASA Administrator, Jim Bridenstine tweeted about the launch. That leaves the fourth, and final, launch attempt, that of a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket with the NROL-71 payload for the National Reconnaissance Office.
