  • Trump to name Heather Nauert as UN ambassador tomorrow, reports say

Nauert joined the State Department previous year after a career as a television anchor and correspondent at Fox News.

President Donald Trump is expected to announce this week that Heather Nauert is his pick to replace Nikki Haley as ambassador to the United Nations.

When former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was sacked earlier this year, Nauert was promoted to acting under secretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs.

Assuming that Nauert wins Senate approval after her upcoming confirmation hearing, the United Nations post will be her first policy role in the USA government.

Haley announced in October she would step down at the end of the year from her post at the United Nations, stirring speculation about the popular Republican's political future. She never traveled with and was not close to her first boss at the department, former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

In a Washington Post article in September she wrote: "I proudly serve in this administration, and I enthusiastically support most of its decisions and the direction it is taking the country".

"Truly no one believes me: I am not even thinking about it", Haley said.

Heather Nauert, who has shown poise in front of the cameras and mostly avoided gaffes, would succeed Nikki Haley, a former SC governor seen as entertaining ambitions for higher political office.

Once revealed the seal was in good health, social media users couldn't help but poke a little fun at the "rebel" sea creature. But the eel may have gotten deeper into the nose, preventing the seal from removing the invader.

Among its flaws, he cited peacekeeping missions that "drag on for decades", climate treaties that he said serve only to redistribute wealth and what he called its anti-Israel bias.

Heather Nauert - the nominee to be the next American UN ambassador - stands alongside US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on an October 2018 flight to Mexico City.

He said USA influence is at a "low ebb", partly because of the absence of empowered ambassadors under Trump.

Nauert would replace Nikki Haley, who has held the post since the beginning of Trump's administration.

One of the reports came from Fox News, where Ms Nauert has previously worked as a presenter.

In her new role, Nauert would be responsible for maintaining global support for economic sanctions against North Korea and continuing the Trump administration's unflinching support for Israel in the face of mounting scrutiny at the United Nations. She hadn't specialized in foreign policy or worldwide relations.

"If I were the State Department's spokesperson, on an official trip to learn more about the dark, dubious circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a USA resident, I probably would have skipped the tourist-in-Riyadh photos. Haley has done representing your administration and the American people".

Nauert joined the Trump administration after more than 20 years in journalism spent largely at Fox News, where she led breaking news coverage for "Fox & Friends", with a brief stint as a general assignment reporter at ABC.
