  • Pakistan Urges US to Leave Afghanistan 'As Friend of the Region'

Pakistan on Friday made a decision to respond to US President Donald Trump's letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

"Were we not to put the pressure on Al-Qaeda, ISIS (Islamic State) and other groups in the region we are putting on today, it is our assessment that, in a period of time their capability would reconstitute, and they have today the intent, and in the future, they would have the capability to do what we saw on 9/11", Dunford said when asked about a potential withdrawal of the USA military contingent from the war-ravaged country. "I have been saying for past many years that war is no solution to Afghanistan's problem and now it has also been realised by the U.S.", he added. "That is how as much as we can we will facilitate", the spokesman explained when asked what Pakistan could do to nudge the insurgents to engage in peace negotiations.

"We have seen some encouraging signs", he added he recalled the ceasefire between Afghan government and the Taliban this year.

He said that Pakistan's founder Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah sacrificed everything during his struggle for the creation of Pakistan. Much hope has been heaped on a new effort led by the United States special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, who has reportedly held talks with Taliban representatives on several occasions.

The Pakistan Prime Minister said he has asked for the status of the case which is being heard in an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan.

"President Trump sent a letter to Prime Minister Khan, requesting Pakistan's full support to the US-led Afghan peace process and Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad's upcoming trip to the region", a spokesperson of the National Security Council, White House, told PTI.

Singer Mika Singh arrested in Dubai for sexual misconduct with Brazilian girl
There was no official statement by authorities in the United Arab Emirates at the time of going to print on Thursday night. He also appeared as a judge on several singing reality shows like "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" and "The Voice India".

He also denied accusations that his country was harbouring terrorists from the Taliban.

Army spokesman Major-General Asif Ghafoor told reporters in Rawalpindi, where the military is headquartered, that Pakistan has long called for resolving Afghan conflict through political means and a US -initiated peace process has gained momentum lately. Our border between Pakistan and Afghanistan has the greatest amount of surveillance.

Defending ties with Beijing, the PM said our relationship with China is not one-dimensional. It wound down combat operations in 2014 and began training and advising Afghan security forces so they could handle the country's security needs.

Lt Gen Kenneth F. McKenzie, the next commander of the US Central Command, said this at a Congressional confirmation hearing. "Now I'm happy that everyone realizes there is only a political solution", he said. It has to be a regional solution not just a solution centered in Afghanistan. "Resolving that case is in our interest because it was an act of terrorism", he said. Washington and Afghan officials have long maintained the Taliban leadership is based in Pakistan and is being covertly supported by the country's spy agency.

Speaking to the opening session of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation foreign ministers meeting on peace and war in Afghanistan in Brussels, Stoltenberg said that the alliance will continue its military and financial support to Afghanistan through to 2024 so that the country is prevented from becoming safe haven for terrorists. It will be hard to reach a settlement without some form of assistance or Pakistan.

Some 14,000 US soldiers are now serving in Afghanistan, and McKenzie couldn't say how much longer the United States would remain in the country. Then, in 1989, when the Soviets packed up and left, the USA did too.
