An Ohio man says he made his daughter walk five miles to school in the cold as a form of punishment after she was suspended from her school bus for bullying another student.

Cox's video has been shared over 350,000 times and viewed over 16 million since Monday morning.

Matt added that he didn't make her walk the entire five mile walk in one go - she did break it up over her three-day suspension from going on the bus.

"As you see, this morning she is learning otherwise".

One upset user blasted the Swanton father for making his daughter walk in 36-degree weather. The Ohio father shared video of her punishment as he slowly followed her inside his auto, as she walked in 36-degree weather.

To some the punishment fits the crime, but others say it seems harsh.

"I just want the kids to know that words truly do hurt; they cut very deep and have lasting effects", Matt told OH news station WTVG.

"I realized she viewed the privilege of riding the bus and or auto rides to and from school as a right and not a privilege", he says.

Mr Cox added that many children feel entitled to privileges like being taken to school in the morning by vehicle or bus.

"Bullying is unacceptable, especially in my household", Cox said.

Cox posted video of the punishment - and was swiftly met with the typical online cacophony of applause and boos.

"Parents need to hold their kids accountable, so, that was me showing how I am holding my kid accountable", Cox told WTVG.

Numerous people commenting applauded the dad's actions.

Kirsten said she's learned her lesson, saying it makes her "sad" when people aren't nice.

"UPDATE: lesson learned! Still has all her extremities intact is happy and healthy and seems to have a new outlook on bullying as well as a new appreciation for some of the simple things in life she used to take for granted #HOLDOURKIDSACOUNTABLE #STOPBULLYING".

Cox told WTVG he thinks the video has made a difference, so he'd do the same thing again.
