In what could prove to be a major advancement for couples facing infertility, the first baby born from a deceased donor uterus transplant was successfully completed at the University Of Sao Paulo School Of Medicine in Brazil, according to a report in the scientific journal Lancet. The woman had been born with a rare genetic condition that left her without a uterus, known as Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome, but she was otherwise healthy.

He said any doubts he had about the potential importance of uterus transplants were erased after meeting the mother of the first baby born after a live donor uterus transplant.

According to the researchers, the uterine transplantation was carried out in September 2016 when the woman with congenital uterine absence was 32 years old.

She had one in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) cycle four months before transplant, resulting in eight fertilised eggs which were cryopreserved.

The girl was healthy weighing almost six pounds and was delivered via cesarean section.

Dr Dani Ejzenberg, from Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo, said: "The first uterus transplants from live donors were a medical milestone, creating the possibility of childbirth for many infertile women with access to suitable donors and the needed medical facilities". Baylor has had two successful births from live donations; Cleveland Clinic is working toward deceased donations; and her own program will be performing both living and deceased donor transplants over the next year. However, a woman who received a live uterine transplant gave birth to a baby boy in 2017, making it a first for the U.S.

Uterine transplantation is a multi-step process that requires coordination among numerous physicians.

The surgical team had to connect the donor's uterus with the veins, arteries, ligaments, and vaginal canal of the recipient. Likewise, the mother's health required months of ongoing monitoring to ensure that she didn't suffer any adverse effects from having the uterus transplanted and then later removed.

Tyson Fury is the Favourite in Re-Match with Deontay Wilder
If everything is in the paper, I have no desire to discuss anything, and let him go fight who he wants. In the ninth, Wilder threw 46 punches, with 13 of them landing, while Fury only landed seven of 24.

"This can be an important limitation when you don't have a close friend or a relative who can donate their uterus", said Doctor Wellington Andraus, the head transplant surgeon involved in the procedure.

Besides saving the life of patients with failed vital organs, scientists have also conducted hand or face transplants in recent years to improve a person's quality of life. Immunosuppression was continued outside of hospital until the birth.

Women who have irreversible infertility are the primary candidates to receive a transplant.

After the recipient's womb and ovarian are functioning, the embryos are transplanted into her uterus - generally at least one year after the transplant.

The fertilised eggs were implanted after seven months.

Pregnancy was confirmed 10 days after implantation.

Besides a minor kidney infection - treated with antibiotics - during the 32nd week, the pregnancy was normal.

Richard Kennedy, president of the International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS), said: "The IFFS welcomes this announcement which is an anticipated evolution from live donors with clear advantages and the prospect of increasing supply for women with hitherto untreatable infertility".
