HMD launches the Android Pie sporting Nokia 8.1

As of right now, there are no plans to launch the phone in the United States, but that could change.

Australian availability of the Nokia 8.1 is unclear at the moment, Nokia has brought most but not all of their recent devices onto the Australian Market. We can thus expect the smartphone to make its way to India this month as well.

Nokia 8.1 will be a successor to Nokia 7 Plus and will feature a new design and an updated hardware. For selfies, there is a single 20MP camera placed on the front.

At the heart of the Nokia 8.1, we have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, clubbed with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage.

The dual 13MP/5MP rear sensor with electronic video stabilisation helps ensure you film steady, sharp videos and perfectly capture your special moments with friends. The Nokia 8.1 comes with a two-design with anodising processes and diamond cut edges. The company is also touting the presence of 18W fast charging. Being a global version of the Nokia X7, the Nokia 8.1 comes with Android One certification, and at the same time, it ships with Android 9 Pie out of the box. The display also offers a notch and comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Commenting on the launch, Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global, said, "We've seen great success in the value flagship category with each of our smartphones in this class consistently introducing new premium experiences to our fans". It also gets the PureDisplay screen technology that was first introduced with the Nokia 7.1.
