‘Pretty Please!’ Google Assistant Can Now Teach Your Kids Manners

  • Signage for the Google Assistant is displayed during CES 2018

"If, for example, you say "Hey Google, please set a timer for 10 minutes", Google Assistant will respond 'Thanks for asking so nicely!" Almost two decades after the film's debut, we now have virtual assistants that can change the temperature of our homes, play music, and adjust lighting just like PAT could - although your average Google Home is far less bossy, to be sure.

Google is pretty much widening the intelligence gap between its increasingly versatile virtual assistant and rivals from Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft every month or so, with the latest batch of updates and feature enhancements specifically aimed at helping you "survive the busy holiday season". It should work for all voice matched users on smart speakers, displays and phones.

Finally, smart display owners are getting some other nice features, including support for Nest Hello video doorbells, broadcast replies and sharing Google Photos. Using phrases like "Hey Google, create a gift list" or "add opera tickets to my gift list", users can create and manage lists easily. You just need to say something like, "Create a gift list" or "Add Sunday party to my to-do list". The good news is that Google realizes this is a huge shortcoming, so support for Keep, Any.do, Bring!, and Todoist is coming...at some point.

Broadcast Replies: When you're out grabbing groceries to prepare for your holiday feast, the Google Assistant can help you easily connect with family at home by using broadcast to check if anything else needs to be picked up. Starting now, you'll be able to dismiss those photos and never see them on your Home Hub (or other Smart Display) again. When someone hits you up on the ol' doorbell, just tap the "Talk" button on your smart display to find out exactly what they want. Using a Google Play Music subscription, will allow you to display and show lyrics, syncronised to the music as it plays on-screen.

The 42-year-old has explained why the playmaker was dropped by him and has stated that it was a sporting decision. Equally, Real Madrid played without Isco , Casemiro, Keylor Navas, Nacho, Alvaro Odriozola and Sergio Regulion.

Most of these new features are available now, but some will be rolling out over the next week.

Pretty Please is enabled now in the app, and for Google's smart speakers and smart displays.

Of course, that's not the only feature added with Assistant's latest update.

Google Assistant can read along with select Disney books, as well as give parents a little breather by taking control of storytime. It is also adding new holiday content by Nickelodeon such as "Albert: The Little Tree with Big Dreams", Blaze and the Monster Machines' "A Monster Machine Christmas", Dora the Explorer's "The Little Christmas Tree", PAW Patrol's "Holiday Helpers!" and Shimmer and Shine's "Santa's Christmas Genies".
