Currently, Apple has a market cap of US$817.7 billion, meaning it has shed almost US$300 billion in value after cresting a record US$1.1 trillion valuation in early October.

Apple is at risk of losing its title as the world's most valuable publicly traded company. You may also recall that earlier this year we told you that Apple, the biggest tech stock of them all, topped a $1tn valuation, on its own for the first time. Apple closed at 828.64 billion, while Microsoft sat at $822.90 billion, according to Bloomberg.

Apple's market cap hovered around $823.66 billion as of 3:15 p.m.in NY, while Microsoft's stood at $823.90 billion, although the two spent much of Monday afternoon jockeying for the top seat in intraday action. At the same time, shares of Apple rose 0.63 per cent, leaving its stock market value at US$823 billion.

Apple and Microsoft have one of the most storied rivalries in Silicon Valley, one that goes back to the mid-1970s.

The "Logan" actor announced that he is bringing back his one-man show and hitting the road on a multi-city tour. Elsewhere, aside from Dublin, there's going to be performances in Amsterdam, Paris, Manchester and London.

Yet now, that very product is among the the challenges facing Apple, with concerns over weak iPhone demand pressuring shares to fall more than 25 per cent from record levels. Apple shares pared early declines to finish 1.35 percent higher. Apple's shares quickly tumbled as many of its suppliers chose to cut their forecasts because of an evident drop in overall smartphone demand.

The Nasdaq has fallen more than 12 percent since the end of September, with high-flying tech names experiencing big drops.

Rich Ross, a technical analyst at Everscore ISI, said Apple could see another 18 percent slide. Microsoft has been pumping out quite a few well-received products as of late, including its Surface Headphones, and its Surface laptop-tablet hybrid device line-up.
