White House Doubles Down On Coal Despite New Climate Report

US President Donald Trump has said he doesn't believe his own government's latest report warning of massive economic losses if carbon emissions continue to feed climate change unchecked.

While the findings outlined by the 1656-page report are numerous, the document's predictions included significant economic losses and humanitarian costs.

Climate change will diminish water supplies and agricultural output in Arizona and increase wildfires and health risks in the state, according to a wide-ranging new federal report.

"The impacts of global climate change are already being felt in the United States and are projected to intensify in the future - but the severity of future impacts will depend largely on actions taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt to the changes that will occur", the report states.

It also said projections of damage could change if greenhouse gas emissions were curbed, although numerous impacts of climate change, like powerful storms, droughts and flooding, have already begun.

'I've seen it, I've read some of it, and it's fine, ' he added.

Keilar noted that the report corroborates overwhelmingly accepted views among the scientific community, and that led to a back-and-forth over government policy and whether climate change had an impact on natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey.

The congressionally mandated report said that climate change will cost the country's economy billions of dollars by the end of the century, but Trump said he does not believe the economic impacts will be devastating.

Mueller: Ex-Trump campaign chair lied, broke plea agreement
At the very least it seems unlikely that prosecutors will request a lighter sentence in response to Mr Manafort's cooperation. He pleaded guilty a month later in Washington and began meeting with USA investigators while he was locked up in jail.

Report co-author Katharine Hayhoe says it shows the unsafe weather that scientists said will happen in the United States is already happening.

Thirteen federal agencies and more than 300 authors produced the report; their work stretched into the first two years of the Trump administration.

Just days after demonstrating a lack of understanding about the difference between weather and climate, US President Donald Trump has remained mum on the report. He also pointed out that it focused on the climate change consequences that would be borne by the US - even though it is a global problem. On Wednesday, Trump questioned the existence of global warming by citing the Arctic blast chilling the Northeast U.S.

The Associated Press and VOA News reported this story. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) criticized the "alarmism" of those who say climate change is a severe threat and said reasonable people can disagree on "how much and how rapidly".

"What the US needs to do is participate in a long-term conversation about how you get to innovation, and it's going to need to be a conversation again that doesn't start with alarmism", Sasse said. "It addresses our country", he said.

Despite the report, there is no indication that the Trump administration will alter its policies.

"People are going to die if we don't start addressing climate change ASAP", Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Friday.

For Trump, fervently denying the existence of climate change is nothing new. "That is why I have made climate change one of my top priorities for the Committee going in to the next Congress".
