Malibu residents ordered out as California wildfire nears

Malibu is less than 20 miles away from Thousand Oaks, a town that is still reeling from Wednesday's mass shooting where former US Marine combat veteran Ian Long opened fire in a bar packed with college students, killing 12 people.

Atria Senior Living's Paradise location posted on Facebook early Friday that all of its residents were safely evacuated and have been taken to the Marriott in Rancho Cordova, where a command center has been set up and residents can be picked up by family members.

Butte County Sheriff officials in Northern California claim that five people were found dead in their vehicles in the town of Paradise.

In Ventura County, "Strong Santa Ana winds (are) expected to continue through this morning", the National Weather Service in Los Angeles said on Twitter on Friday.

Fanned by high overnight winds, multiple fires have ripped through the state of California in recent days.

Meanwhile, portions of Southern California remained under siege early Friday as two large fires threatened numerous Ventura County communities.

The town of Paradise, California, which has about 27,000 people, was asked to evacuate the area.

Calabasas and Malibu are home to many celebrities and some have been posting on social media.
