The White House suspended CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta's press pass on Wednesday night, hours after Acosta pressed Trump at a press conference.

Fleischer, who served in former President George W. Bush's administration and is now a Fox News contributor, said Thursday on "American's Newsroom" that the White House should not have revoked Acosta's press pass over the "physical contact" shown in various videos.

On Twitter, Acosta responded to Sanders' statement with, simply: "This is a lie".

And asked how long he would suspend CNN correspondent Jim Acosta's credentials, the president replied: "I haven't made that decision, but it could be others also". The reporter was in the midst of a terse back-and-forth with Trump, whom he was trying to ask a question about a migrant caravan heading for the U.S. Instead, Acosta continued with a second question about the Russian investigation, which Trump shrugged off with another curt answer. "But I watch you a lot and you ask a lot of stupid questions", Trump said, jabbing his finger at her before turning and walking away.

"The fact that the White House Press Secretary is promoting this doctored video is reprehensible and grounds for dismissal - or, as they call it in the Trump administration, Thursday", Colbert said on The Late Show. You shouldn't treat people that way...

Ryan tried asking Trump a question at his Wednesday press conference, but Trump told her repeatedly to "sit down" and scolded her for "rudely interrupting".

Sanders hasn't said where the video she posted comes from. It is the White House. "You shouldn't be working for CNN".

Later, a man was arrested after he was shot at the scene and taken to a hospital under police guard in a critical condition. The spokesperson confirmed that one person had died in the stabbing attacks and that the attacker was in hospital.

The version shared by Sanders also omits Acosta's "Pardon me, ma'am". "I can not defend Jim Acosta", Fleischer added.

He also refuted claims that the White House video was doctored. In her statement announcing Acosta's suspension, she said the White House won't tolerate "a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job". "When you are in the White House, this is a very sacred place to me, a very special place".

"Secretary Sanders lied", CNN said in a statement, saying the press pass suspension was "done in retaliation for challenging questions".

"I do think, Anderson, that this is a test for all of us", he said.

After Friday morning's Q&A session, Ryan called into CNN and said she shook off his insults.

Many mainstream media members and reporters expressed their outrage at the revoking of Acosta's pass, and CNN publicly stood firmly by its reporter without reprimanding him for his conduct.

Phillip and Ryan are two of a small number of African American women who cover the White House.
