  • Large fire threatens Ventura County communities 101 Freeway closed hundreds evacuated

Fire officials ordered the evacuation of large swaths of the beachside city of Malibu Friday as a raging fire jumped the USA 101 Freeway west of Los Angeles and raced toward the sea and the community famed for its surf and celebrity homes.

Fire officials initially ordred the evacuation of all 13,000 residents of the community, which stretches 21 miles along the ocean, but later scaled it back to the western two-thirds of the city.

Fire officials said it could take days to figure out how many people died.

The L.A. Times reported that a total of 75,000 homes in both Ventura and Los Angeles counties are now under mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders, including Westlake Village and parts of Calabasas, where numerous entertainers including Alyssa Milano and Kim Kardashian have lavish homes.

One blaze, dubbed the "Woolsey Fire", started in the Simi Valley and within 12 minutes had jumped across the 101 Freeway.

Thousands of people are now being evacuated in Ventura County due to the Woolsey fire that's raging in California. Although an unknown number of structures have been destroyed, there were no reports of any injuries to firefighters or residents as of mid-morning Friday.

Evacuations are now under way, with tens of thousands of people having already been forced to flee their homes, and hot and dry weather conditions are exacerbating the problem.

"I feel very vulnerable posting this but I feel I should", Chatfield wrote on Facebook.

Buccaneers Sticking With Ryan Fitzpatrick As Starter
Fitzpatrick and Howard connected for another score in the closing seconds of the half to cut the Carolina lead to 35-14. The loss dropped the Bucs to 2-3 in games started by Fitzpatrick.

Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian also evacuated their homes in Calabasas on Thursday night as the fires grew out of control just hours after igniting.

Cal Fire's Bill Murphy says winds have calmed down in the valley but that there are "shifting, erratic winds" with speeds of up to 45mph (72 km/h) along ridge tops.

It is claimed that her home, which is in the same area of the Woolsey fire, went up in flames on Friday. So far, it has burned through 20,000 acres, injured firefighters and residents, and prompted hospitals and schools to quickly evacuate.

"We all know this is the second fire that occurred in Ventura County, and it's on the heels of what's happened up in Northern California where they've had devastating loss in Butte County".

The California wildfire map also shows fires burning in the areas north and south of of San Francisco and parts surrounding Los Angeles.

The fire has burned more than 14,000 acres and all of Malibu is under mandatory evacuation.

The nearest evacuation center is at Palisades High School, located at 15777 Bowdoin St, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272.
