Twitter deletes 10,000+ bot accounts that ‘discouraged U.S. midterm voting’

  • Twitter purged bot accounts that attempted to get voters to stay home

Twitter removed more than 10,000 automated accounts, or "bots", for posting messages purportedly sent by Democrats discouraging people from voting in next week's midterm races, Reuters reported Friday.

The accounts were taken down in late September and early October, Reuters reports.

The spokesman said: "We took action on relevant accounts and activity on Twitter".

Yet the removals represent an early win for a fledgling effort by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, or DCCC, a party group that supports Democrats running for the U.S. House of Representatives.

One of the recent tweets that were plagued by the Democrats were messages to men.

"For the election this year we have established open lines of communication and direct, easy escalation paths for state election officials, DHS and campaign organizations from both major parties", a Twitter spokesperson told The Washington Times.

Hetmyer, 21, is also in superb form scoring 259 runs in the ODI series including the counter-attacking 106 in Guwahati. The hosts would want skipper Rohit to lead from the front and continue his purple patch with the bat.

The DCCC developed its own system for identifying and reporting malicious automated accounts on social media, according to the three party sources.

Twitter on Saturday said it deleted a "series of accounts" that attempted to share disinformation, ahead of crucial midterm elections, as media reports said thousands of accounts were axed.

Ahead of midterms, Twitter established communication channels for both major U.S. parties to report any suspicious activities but did not mention any complaints from Republicans.

A user can identify automated accounts, also known as bots, and analyse how they spread information.

For months, Twitter has sought to eliminate automated and bogus accounts created to manipulate the public conversation on Twitter, in response to concerns over Russian interference in the 2016 election.
