Tabular A and Tabular B, along with a number of other similar sheet-cake bergs in the area, are products of that same breakup, NASA scientist John Sonntag said in a newly released video featuring footage from Harbeck's flyover.
Harbeck was the one who spotted this flat-topped, sharp-angled, iceberg floating off Larsen C ice shelf, notes the report.
In July 2017, Antarctica's Larsen C ice shelf released the enormous A68 iceberg, which weighs about 1,000 billion tonnes.
"We get two types of icebergs: We get the type that everyone can envision in their head that sank the Titanic, and they look like prisms or triangles at the surface and you know they have a insane subsurface", Brunt told Live Science.
Washington D.C., Oct 24: Operation IceBridge, NASA's aerial survey of polar ice, captured two tabular icebergs while flying over the northern Antarctic Peninsula.
Taken during an October 16 research flight over the northern Antarctica Peninsula, the picture recently went viral.
In a different photo (above), Harbeck captured both the edge of the now-famous iceberg, and a slightly less rectangular iceberg.
"I was actually more interested in capturing the A68 iceberg that we were about to fly over, but I thought this rectangular iceberg was visually interesting and fairly photogenic, so on a lark, I just took a couple photos", Harbeck said.
On Tuesday, it emerged that Mr Harbeck had spotted two rectangular icebergs on the same flyover.
The second table also split the iceberg from the ice shelf, Larsen S.
NASA scientists with the Operation IceBridge have released one more photo this week, and it is freakish.
When the IceBridge scientists reveal the new photos of this, it has shown that the iceberg's true shape and form that it came to know that this is not the ideal rectangular. The exploration is a part of a five-week long deployment which is scheduled to be concluded on November 18.
