Warren's DNA test renews scrutiny of long history claiming Native-American heritage

  • Editorial: Elizabeth Warren’s DNA raises question

"She took a bogus DNA test and it showed that she may be 1/1024, far less than the average American".

That refers to Trump's earlier challenge to Warren to take a DNA test, and pledging $1 million to her favorite charity if it showed she, in fact, had Native American roots.

Warren has claimed Cherokee and Delaware Indian heritage, citing family stories, but until Monday had not presented documentation. Facebook and Uber investor Hadi Partovi flipped MAGA on its head when he said, "By calling us awful you insult everything that makes America great".

Sen. Lindsey O. Graham said Tuesday that it would be "like, terrible" if a DNA test found that he had Iranian heritage, a comment that a Fox News Channel host tried to walk back just after the South Carolina Republican made it.

The senator's remarks were not met well with people online.

What's unclear is whether Warren's DNA gambit will allow her to put the controversy in the past, or whether it endures in jokes and political lore. She pointed to the results as proof of the Cherokee heritage that she's been mocked for claiming throughout her career.

"We appreciate Senator Warren's push to bring awareness to violence against American Indian and Alaska Native women and families, who all too often are invisible to most Americans", NIWRC responded in a statement on its website. The Boston Herald exposed her Association of American Law Schools entries from 1986 to 1995 in which she listed herself as a Native American; and when she worked for Harvard University Law School, it listed her as a minority professor.

Canada becomes second country to legalize marijuana nationwide
Senators voted 52-29 on a federal government bill back in June to pave the way for the legalization of recreational cannabis . Police, meanwhile, are scrambling to prepare for a predicted uptick in drug-impaired driving.

It is important to note that even the most accurate DNA ancestry test results have a range of error, and different ancestry companies that use different algorithms can produce somewhat different reports. He compared her DNA to that of 148 individuals from the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia, and was able to assign 95% to European ancestors.

Warren released the findings of the test in a video in which she concedes that she is not enrolled in any tribe, "but my family history is my family history".

"I'm deeply uncomfortable with what Elizabeth Warren has done here. That will not be something I enjoy doing, either".

Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. criticized the president's use of the name "Pocahontas" as an intended insult.

Despite putting Warren once again on defense, the furor over the DNA test serves to deal with the hard subject well before the potential launch of a widely expected 2020 presidential run.

"Her mother says she has high cheekbones", Trump mockingly told a rally in Great Falls, Montana on July 5. "Even they don´t want her. Phony!"

Nine times out of 10, the person will light up and say, "How did you know?"
