Two pilots, including the American, died in the crash in the Khmelnytskyi region about 200 miles from Kyiv, the capital, according to the country's Defense Ministry, Radio Free Europe reported.

A Ukrainian Sukhoi-27 fighter jet crashed during large-scale military exercises with the USA air force, the Ukrainian air force said Tuesday.

The Su-27UB jet was taking part in Clear Sky 2018, a joint military exercise with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members taking place October 8 through 19 in Western Ukraine.

"Clear Sky 2018 is a joint and multinational exercise that will involve approximately 950 personnel from nine nations, including Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States", a September news release from the Air Force stated. The incident is now under investigation and do not have any other information to provide at this time.
