  • Brent crude the benchmark for more than half the world’s oil rose as much as 1.9 percent to $81.92 a barrel

Leaked surveillance video show diplomatic cars traveled to the consul general's home shortly after Khashoggi went into the consulate.

Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo meets with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 16, 2018.

But the Saudis have faced intense criticism over the Khashoggi incident, which comes just after USA senators almost succeeded in cutting off support for Riyadh's air campaign against rebels in Yemen, which a United Nations report says has killed thousands of civilians.

Soon after, Pompeo arrived at a royal palace, where he thanked King Salman "for accepting my visit on behalf of President Trump" before the two went into a closed-door meeting. "Until now, Mohammed bin Salman, in most circles inside and especially outside the kingdom, was seen as a reformer and modernizer carrying out necessary changes, yet this abduction or killing can in no way be seen as a legitimate procedure of this reform process", she said.

The Washington Post has previously cited unnamed U.S. and Turkish officials pointing to audio and video recordings that supposedly prove Khashoggi was killed inside the consulate and was then dismembered.

Saudi officials have repeatedly denied any involvement in Khashoggi's disappearance and say they have no information about his whereabouts.

It's believed that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) directly ordered the execution of Khashoggi over his criticism of the Saudi regime, according to USA intelligence intercepts.

Saudi Arabia has said it would retaliate against any pressure or economic sanctions.

Turkish police on Monday night undertook an eight hour search at the consulate, taking away soil and DNA samples, although the search expected on Tuesday at the consul's residence has so far not taken place.

"This guy is a wrecking ball", Graham said on Fox News Tuesday morning, alleging that the prince directed Khashoggi's murder inside the consulate.

United Nations has 'serious concern' on missing Saudi writer
The consulate insists the writer left its premises, contradicting Turkish officials who say they believe he is still there. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not confirm the alleged killing saying he would await the result of an investigation.

The Saudi Arabian government reportedly sent $100 million to the Trump administration toward its operations in Syria Tuesday - the same day that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in Riyadh - timing that some are calling too good to be true.

Saudi Arabia is preparing to acknowledge the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in a botched interrogation, CNN and the New York Times said on Monday, after US President Donald Trump speculated "rogue killers" may be responsible.

Pompeo will hold talks in Turkey on Wednesday, the Turkish foreign ministry said, after his visit to Riyadh.

Meeting King Salman, Pompeo "thanked the king for his commitment to supporting a thorough, transparent and timely investigation of Jamal Khashoggi's disappearance", Nauert said.

Interviewed by state-run Anadolu news agency, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu refused to be drawn into commenting on what may have happened inside the consulate.

"Of course, it's obvious the whole thing is in the interests of Iran because on the one hand it has caused serious differences between America and Saudi Arabia, and on the other hand, the young prince's reforms in Saudi Arabia have been destroyed in the public opinion of the world", he added.

Yeni Safak, a strongly pro-government newspaper, said Mr al-Otaibi could be heard telling those allegedly torturing Mr Khashoggi: "Do this outside; you're going to get me in trouble".

Trump's warning drew an angry response Sunday from Saudi Arabia and its state-linked media, including a suggestion that Riyadh could wield its oil production as a weapon.

"In view of the seriousness of the situation surrounding the disappearance of Khashoggi, I believe the inviolability or immunity of the relevant premises and officials bestowed by treaties such as the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations should be waived immediately", Ms Bachelet said. "I think we have to find out what happened first".
