Melania Trump brushes off questions about her husband’s alleged infidelity

  • Reactions to Melania claiming she's the most bullied person in the world

First lady Melania Trump said she was "blindsided" by the administration's zero-tolerance immigration policy that led to family separations at the southern border and it prompted her unannounced visit there in June. Mrs. Trump has generally stayed quiet on the subject.

Donald Trump has since admitted to reimbursing Cohen for the payment, but the president insists the affair itself never took place. She says allegations of her husband's infidelities are not a "concern and focus". "I know people like to speculate and media like to speculate about our marriage".

But she gave no hint to ABC as to how the stories affected her.

The usually private first lady, who has refrained from responding publicly to repeated allegations of her husband's infidelity, which he's denied, opened up to Chief National Affairs Correspondent Tom Llamas in an exclusive interview during her recent tour through Africa - her first solo worldwide trip as first lady. Trump ended the segment saying she wished that the media would turn their attention to the issues.

She added that she believes parents of Americans should be allowed to come to the United States, but said "we need to vet them, we need to know who they are", something she said she has told her husband, and "he agrees". Now, the first lady is saying otherwise. "It's not always correct stuff".

Is she really that self-absorbed? Hillary Clinton endured husband Bill Clinton's dalliance with Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office, and John F. Kennedy, president from 1961-63, was a serial cheater on wife Jackie. Porn star Stormy Daniels and ex-Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal have said they had sex with him years ago.

She scoffed at such talk in the ABC interview.

In Africa, she visited hospitals and schools and a wildlife park in Ghana, Malawi and Kenya, speaking to students and feeding a baby elephant, before stopping in Egypt to visit the Giza pyramids.

She also explained one reason why she had made fighting cyber bullying a target of her "Be Best" campaign.

"It was kind of a message, yes", the first lady said.

Mrs. Trump says she's "a mother and a first lady".

The interview came just over three weeks before the midterm congressional elections, in which Trump's record is expected to play a big part in how voters cast their ballots.

In this October 6, 2018 photo, First lady Melania Trump pauses as she speaks to media during a visit to the historical Giza Pyramids site near Cairo, Egypt. "You could criticize whatever you want to say, but it will not stop me to do what I feel is right". "It's obvious I didn't wear the jacket for the children", she continued.
