  • The closed Cantrell Funeral Home in Detroit

Management of the funeral home failed to renew its prepaid funeral and cemetery sales registration, the Detroit News reported.

"Some of the bodies had a tag on referring back to 2009, some had receipts on them as if the person or family didn't finish paying", Detroit Police Lieutenant Demps said.

The former funeral home was forcibly closed in April for deplorable conditions regarding decomposing and mouldy bodies. The bodies had been reportedly decomposing for months. A cadaver-trained dog searched through the entire building but turned up nothing in that regard.

The property's current owner, Naveed Syed, says he called police after making the shocking discovery.

Bowser said they have names of some of the deceased infants and the medical examiner will conduct an investigation.

Police say the bodies had been hidden in the ceiling of the Mack Avenue business - eight inside a cardboard box and three others in individual bags inside a casket. Some of them appeared to have been stillborn.

United States pastor detained in Turkey may soon be released
In a Middle East Eye report in late September, Turkish and U.S. officials said they were working to free Brunson. The evangelical pastor is accused of terror-related charges and espionage, facing up to 35 years if convicted.

"We have to find out what happened, and why it happened", Bowser said.

"Approximately 2.30pm (Friday) members of LARA received an anonymous letter detailling the existence or the wherabouts of numerous humans remains inside the funeral home", he said.

"We will use the evidence gathered today to add to our open investigation and will continue to work with local law enforcement as this case proceeds, ' Jason Moon, communications director for the state agency said in an email". The Cantrell family operates a successor funeral home in the Detroit suburb of Eastpointe.

Jameca LaJoyce Boone, who had managed the funeral home the year before it closed, told The Detroit News she was shocked there were bodies hidden in the ceiling. "I was trying to go handling things at hand", Cantrell said.

The property involved is now being reconfigured into a community center. He said he only held the bodies because some people were unable to pay for a proper burial.
