She referred to these 11 cases as an outbreak within an outbreak.

Like many children, Julia Payne, the toddler at Lurie, started to show signs of weakness and problems breathing on her own after a prolonged cold, said Dr. Marcelo Malakooti, the medical director for Lurie's pediatric intensive care unit. An additional possible case of AFM was reported out of Skagit County on Thursday.

All of the cases are in patients younger than 18 and have been clinically diagnosed by health care providers, the statement said. A 2-year-old girl was recently diagnosed in the Chicago area, and UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh confirmed that three children are now being treated for AFM at their facility.

We've been reporting about the polio-like illness affecting two children here in Chicago, nine in northern IL and others across the country, but how concerned should parents be about the spread to their children? "CDC specialists will make the final determination if these cases are AFM". The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said there have been a confirmed 38 cases across 16 states in 2018 so far.

The 2018 half year revenue performance report of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) shows that tax revenue improved by 42 per cent.

According to the CDC, other viruses like poliovirus and West Nile may sometimes lead to AFM.

The state health department is working with the CDC to determine if these are indeed cases of AFM. AFM can cause a range of types and severity of symptoms, but the commonality among them is a loss of strength or movement in one or more arms or legs. Since that time, more than 360 new cases of AFM were reported. Other patients have it much worse.

On Monday, news broke that six children in Minnesota have been infected with the rare disease that causes lowered mobility or paralysis in the arms and legs. This does not include all of the 14 cases announced by Colorado, as some of those cases were confirmed after September 30.

Minnesota has noticed a spike in suspected AFM cases in recent weeks. From August 2014 through August 2018, the CDC has been notified of 362 cases of the illness, mostly in children.

In 2016, there were nine cases of AFM in Washington and three in 2017. After the 120 cases in 2014, there were 22 in 2015, 149 in 2016, and 33 past year, according to the agency.
