  • A potential tropical cyclone is looking to wreak havoc on Central America in the next few days

Tropical Storm Michael is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane Monday afternoon and impact the Gulf Coast by the middle of the week.

Currently, the storm is moving north at 6 miles per hour.

The storm is then forecast to move northeast along the Atlantic Coast and batter the Carolinas, which are still recovering from Hurricane Florence last month.

Meteorologist Adam Klotz discusses timeline, details of tropical storm Michael.

On Monday at 5 a.m., the National Hurricane Center issued the Tropical Storm Watch from the Suwannee River to Anna Maria Island, including Tampa Bay. A warning means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the designated area, and warnings are typically issued 36 hours before tropical-storm-force winds are expected, the weather service said.

"If this storm hit Panama City, Tampa could still have storm surge", said Scott, referring to two Florida cities about 375 miles (600 kilometers) apart by highway.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says newly named Tropical Storm Michael could strengthen to a hurricane as it heads to the Florida Panhandle. Preparation for a potential hurricane landfall needs to be complete by Tuesday.

In the semifinals, the Dane routed Chinese Wang Qiang, giving her only one game in the first game and three in the second. While not all of them found their intended target, the Georgian did enough to take the first set in 46 minutes.

Hurricane Hunters flew into Michael early this morning and found that it's becoming more organized.

The National Hurricane Center is predicting it will gain strength and become Tropical Storm Michael by tonight, and should head into the Gulf of Mexico late Monday.

Michael was moving north-northeast at 3 miles per hour off Yucatan Peninsula as of the 5 p.m. Sunday update. It was moving north around 9 miles per hour (11 kph).

The hurricane center advised residents along the northeastern and central U.S. Gulf Coast to monitor the storm's progress. "There will be a significant threat along the coast of hurricane force winds, storm surge that could be exceed 6 to 12 feet in some locations, rains totaling 4" - 8" with local amounts up to 12", and isolated tornadoes.

"Today, I will be declaring a state of emergency in counties in the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend and directing the State Emergency Operations Center to activate".

"Heavy rainfall from Michael could produce life-threatening flash flooding from the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend region into portions of the Carolinas through Thursday", the hurricane center said.
