Last night, the 23-year-old was dumped out of the Shanghai Masters, following a clash with an umpire who deemed his efforts to be 'borderline'.

Kyrgios appeared exasperated and distracted at times as American qualifier Bradley Klahn took out the match in three sets.

"I think it's really up to him where he wants to go and what his potential really holds", the 20-time Grand Slam victor said.

Wawrinka had chances - he had two break points at 3-3 in the second set - but Coric secured his first ever victory over the Swiss having won the first four games in the decider.

As Klahn worked his way towards a win, his frustrated Australian opponent engaged in an argument with French umpire Damien Dumusois.

The chair umpire said that was enough - but it didn't end there as well. "I think next year it's about a focus on slams and actually performing and going deep in those".

The Shanghai Masters has been a particularly unhappy hunting ground for Kyrgios over the years, with this being the fourth year in a row that he has stoked controversy at the competition.

CC Sabathia Critical Of Angel Hernandez Following Loss
Tzu-Wei Lin is now working out with the team in case Moreland needs to be replaced on the roster going into the ALCS. He was awful behind the plate today", Sabathia told reporters after the game, per Tim Healey of Newsday .

Roger Federer warned temperamental Australian Nick Kyrgios on Tuesday (Oct 9) that he would never fulfil his potential without the work ethic to go with his talent.

Kyrgios was fined after he stormed off mid-way through his first-round exit in the event a year ago, while in 2016 he argued with spectators and was accused of giving away points in another defeat.

In that game, in which the un-seeded German dismantled Kyrgios in just 48 minutes, Kyrgios appeared to walk off court before Zverev had completed his service game, leading to a chorus of boos.

And in 2015, he was fined USD1,500 for using obscenities during a match and calling the event a "circus".

Last month umpire Mohamed Lahyani was suspended from his next two scheduled tournaments after trying to encourage Kyrgios during a match at the US Open.

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has found himself in hot water yet again, following a weird outburst at the Shanghai Rolex Masters. for the fourth year in a row.

Kyrgios has recently lost his status as Australia's No 1 to Alex de Minaur.
