DC Circuit receives complaints about Kavanaugh, reportedly sends them to Supreme Court

  • Brett Kavanaugh is sworn-in as Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court on Oct. 8 2018 at the White House

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he's expecting a "relatively lively" lame-duck session of Congress after next month's midterm elections, including a possible partial government shutdown over funding for President Donald Trump's promised border wall.

Tammy Baldwin led the "messaging" effort aimed at stopping Trump's expansion of bare-bones health-insurance plans.

According to one of the latest polls out of the state, which was conducted before Manchin voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the senator was beating his opponent by eight points.

Though Wake did not provide specific details about the uptick in sexual assault reports, she said Ford's testimony showed how hard it can be to report sexual misconduct.

But Gillers said the complaints "may be found not to be meritorious in the end". The complaints deal with statements Kavanaugh made during his confirmation hearings and were initially filed with the D.C. Circuit, where Kavanaugh served for 12 years before joining the high court. Garland had been nominated to the Supreme Court by President Barack Obama, but Senate Republicans never acted on the nomination.

"Democrats want to raise your taxes, impose socialism, dismantle law enforcement, eliminate (the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency) and get rid of American borders", Trump said in a state where immigration is a particularly divisive topic because of the influx of laborers who support farming and other industries.

Heavy Rain Becomes Threat as Michael Moves In
But forecasters noted there is an increasing risk of risky surge, rainfall and wind for those in the cone. Hurricane Hunters are collecting data on the storm, and that data will be fed into our forecast models.

Murkowski's comments come after Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual assault by multiple women (allegations he categorically denies), was confirmed to the Supreme Court on Saturday.

On the campaign trail Trump insisted Mexico would pay for the wall.

McConnell declined to weigh in on a possible replacement except to say he or she would not be coming from the ranks of his slim 51-seat Senate majority.

Roberts said in his letter that he was initially notified of complaints against Kavanaugh on September 20.

The Trump administration issued a final rule on Wednesday that clears the way for the sale of many more health insurance policies that do not comply with the Affordable Care Act and do not have to cover prescription drugs, maternity care or people with pre-existing medical conditions. "I'm proud she's in the Republican conference", he added.

Kavanaugh was seated on the far right side of the bench Tuesday, next to Justice Elena Kagan, who hired him to teach at Harvard Law School when she was dean. Progressives fought hard against Kavanaugh's confirmation due to his originalist jurisprudence and because he would replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, often viewed as a "swing" vote in many 5-4 decisions. But critics said Kavanaugh's demeanor raised questions about his temperament and potential political bias in deciding cases.
