Betting suspended on The Everest

  • The Chaser Projected Alan Jones' Phone Number Onto The Opera House

With most bureaucratic controversies happening behind closed doors, it's not often the public rallies around a public servant, but an online petition in support of Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron has passed a quarter of a million signatures.

"It is the view of the Heritage Council that the use of the Opera House for the commercial advertising of this event is completely unsatisfactory and is an inappropriate use of this significant heritage place that is valued by many around the world", he said. Who said? Who the hell are you?

The outrage had already prompted racing authorities to drop plans to hold the barrier draw publicly, so as to avoid "security risks", and betting was suspended from noon until the announcement of the draw result in the evening.

'This is one of the biggest events of the year why not put it on the biggest billboard Sydney has, ' he said.

"Sometimes I get it wrong, when I do I have no problem in saying so". "In relation to Louise [Herron], I was tough regarding an issue I and others felt is very important". He said he didn't bully her but acknowledges that "there were people who thought he did".

Jones has, however, apologised to Herron. It was created on Friday.

Ronaldo to start amid rape allegation
But a full-page advert showing Ronaldo wearing only underpants appeared in Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper on Saturday. Goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Cristiano Ronaldo were enough to see the Bianconeri leave Stadio Friuli with all three points.

The government's decision came after a top radio "shock jock", Alan Jones, urged the Opera House's boss to resign or be sacked for objecting to the promotion.

The top comment on the page states "Sydney should not be hostage to Alan Jones and the gambling establishments".

A video was taken of the draw by Racing NSW stewards for audit purposes on Tuesday morning. Participants are encouraged to use light sources, such as torches and smartphones, to disrupt the advertising images.

Jones says the protest should not happen.

Alan Jones' mobile is probably running hot this morning after those naughty wags at The Chaser projected his phone number onto the sails of the Sydney Opera House alongside the caption, "Advertise here".
