Legendary England defender John Terry has announced his retirement from professional football.

"I have to say it was the most joyous I have ever felt in getting that promotion".

It has also been suggested that Henry is set to bring in former Chelsea captain John Terry, who left the club at the end of last season, as his number two at Villa Park at the start of his reign.

"They are still the fifth most successful club in England in terms of silverware and, while some of you might not agree, I still see the Villa manager's job as one of the plum positions in the game".

Making over 700 appearances for Chelsea, Terry then switched to Aston Villa last season, but having not been offered a new contract at the Championship club Terry has been without a contract and announced on his Instagram page last night that he was hanging up his boots.

Terry joined Chelsea's academy from West Ham at the age of 14 and made his first-team debut as a substitute in a League Cup victory over Villa in October 1998.

'PS: you still haven't paid me the bet we did years ago, so please do it before I tell all my followers'.

My club career and heart will always belong to Chelsea. It was a privilege to represent such a renowned football club with great fans.

He made 717 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 67 times, before joining Villa after leaving Stamford Bridge in 2017, playing 36 games for the club.

"I look forward to the next chapter in my life and the challenges ahead. JT".
