Kavanaugh accuser commits to hearing

Democrats are calling for the FBI to investigate the sexual assault allegation against the Supreme Court nominee.

The claim dates to the 1983-84 academic school year, when Kavanaugh was a freshman at Yale University.

As for Kavanaugh, he tells the New Yorker.

"Brett Kavanaugh, and I'm not saying anything about anybody else, Brett Kavanaugh is one of the finest human beings you will ever have the privilege of knowing or meeting", Trump said. "You couldn't get a warrant because the three people named by Dr. Ford as having been at the party outside of Kavanaugh all say they don't know what she's talking about", he said. He has said he wants to testify as soon as possible to clear his name.

The depths to which Kavanaugh's defenders are willing to sink was underscored when Ed Whelan, the president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, sent out a tweet thread pushing a mistaken-identity alibi to explain away Ford's allegations against Kavanaugh.

White House spokeswoman Kerri Kupec called the new allegation part of a "coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear down a good man". "The White House stands firmly behind Judge Kavanaugh". "If one Republican senator should decide that Dr. Ford's allegations, assertions are true and that they are serious, it could make a big difference in the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh". "They have also refused to invite other witnesses who are essential for a fair hearing that arrives at the truth about the sexual assault".

With the conservative judge's confirmation prospects already hanging the balance, the news of a second set of allegations is likely to alarm Republicans who are hoping to push Kavanaugh's nomination through the Senate, where they hold a slim 51-49 majority.

When she first told a USA lawmaker her harrowing allegation of a 1982 high-school sexual assault at the hands of a prep-school kid now poised to become one of America's most powerful judges, she was just an anonymous psychology professor in California - and wanted to stay that way.

Elon Musk names first passenger for SpaceX Moon flight
Twenty-four NASA astronauts flew to the moon from 1968 through 1972, and only 12 of them strolled its dusty surface. The company , led by billionaire Elon Musk, planned to reveal the person's identity during a live webcast at 6 p.m.

"She was like, 'I can't deal with this, '" Russell Ford said. I'm just being honest: "Unless there's something more, no, I'm not going to ruin Judge Kavanaugh's life over this".

Peter Baker reports in the New York Times that Judge Kavanaugh has detailed calendars covering the months of June through August 1982 that he will hand over to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Democrats again called for the FBI to investigate Ford's claims, a request that was unlikely to be met as President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans have said it's unnecessary.

Ford said Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge was in the room during the assault - but neither he nor others who she said were at the party have claimed any knowledge or memory of the incident, though at least one said she believes Ford's allegations.

Senator Lindsey Graham of SC, a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, said on "Fox News Sunday" said he wouldn't vote against Kavanaugh without additional evidence."Unless there's something more, no, I'm not going to ruin Judge Kavanaugh's life over this", he said.

In other words, Ford expects to be believed without question because 36 years ago she suffered what for any woman would be a devastating experience she "will never forget" - but she demands to be excused for not recalling key facts about the unforgettable.

Dianne Feinstein did not reveal that she'd received information from a woman claiming that Brett Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her while they were teenagers in time for the Supreme Court nominee to explain himself, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Friday.

Ford's lawyers said it was still unclear who will ask questions, as Republicans were trying to hire an outside female counsel who could take over the questioning.
