Marine Le Pen attacks 'crazy' court order to undergo psychiatric tests

  • French far-right leader Marine Le Pen shared images of atrocities committed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria in December 2015 a few weeks after ISIS militants killed 130 people in attacks in Paris

A firebrand politician of the far right in France has been ordered by a court to undergo a psychiatric evaluation-and Marine Le Pen is daring the court to force her to do so.

Two hours later, the former French presidential candidate posted a copy of a court document online, in which a judge inquired whether psychological disorders were responsible for why she chose to post graphic tweets several years ago.

Le Pen has argued that she shared the images in response to a French journalist who drew a comparison between IS and her party.

"I thought I had seen it all, but no!"

"For having condemned Daesh [also known as IS] horrors in tweets, the "justice system" is putting me through psychiatric tests! Just how far will they go?" she asked, repeating her view that it was part of a government plot to discredit her. "This regime is REALLY starting to be frightening".

Who is marine Le Pen?

Later on Thursday, she told reporters she felt "persecuted" and vowed not to attend the psychiatric evaluation.

The politician, who was runner-up to Emmanuel Macron in last year's French presidential election, posted images of the body of murdered U.S. journalist James Foley in December 2015.

The corresponding decision the judge made the decision in the case initiated due to the fact that in 2015, Le Pen has published three photos with the executions of people killed by terrorists so-called "Islamic state". "A court orders a psychiatric assessment for Marine Le Pen". The images that led to to the order were originally posted in December 2015, weeks after coordinated terrorist attacks killed 130 across Paris on November 13. "Words fail me! Solidarity with her and with the French who love freedom!" he wrote.

Le Pen included a caption reading, "Daesh is this!" using an Arabic acronym for the group.

Her father Jean-Marie Le Pen, who founded the National Front before being pushed out by his daughter as she sought to marginalise his more inflammatory style, came to her support.

If convicted, Le Pen could be punished with up to three years in prison and a fine of around $91,000.

Experts have told the French media that psychiatric tests are common for people facing charges like Le Pen's. She later deleted the tweet showing Foley at the request of his family, and said she had not been aware he was in the photo.
