"There is a risk of some extremely windy conditions with heavy rainfall on Monday night or Tuesday but there is a large degree of uncertainty in details at present".

Jamaica Weather posted the photograph online, saying: "This going to be a insane end to the week!"

It is more likely that Ireland, Scotland and northern England will see winds of 10 to 20mph, and gusts up to 40mph.

Florence, a potentially life-threatening Category 4 hurricane, is on track to make landfall in North Carolina or SC on Thursday (Sept. 13).

Florence, however, continues to threaten the east coast as a fierce storm that could trigger flooding as far south as Georgia.

The National Hurricane Center still expects the hurricane to cause "life threatening, catastrophic flash flooding" whenever it makes landfall.

The National Weather Service says Hurricane Florence "will likely be the storm of a lifetime for portions of the Carolina coast".

Officials in the potential path of Florence urged people to evacuate their coastal homes and directed drivers away from the coast. Florence should weaken to a tropical storm after 24 hours and then to below tropical storm strength after 48 hours.

Up to 1.7 million people have been ordered to evacuate across South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. If the two systems become tropical storms, it would be the first time the Atlantic has had five named storms at once, Colorado State University meteorologist Phil Klotzbach said.

The 8 a.m. forecast on Hurricane Florence reinforces projections that the storm's path will shift slightly to the southeast as it closes in on the Carolinas.

On the current projected track the centre of this system is forecast to pass between 100 and 150 miles (160 to 240 km) north of Barbados early on Thursday morning. Damaging winds, floods, high surf and storm surge are still possible.

A unsafe Hurricane Florence is steadily making its way to the U.S. East Coast. Strengthening is forecast through Wednesday.

Water could reach as high as 4 feet from Edisto Beach to the South Santee River.

President Donald Trump declared states of emergency for North and SC and Virginia, opening the way for federal aid. However, cloudiness and showers trailing Tropical Depression Isaac will continue to affect the Lesser Antilles including Saint Lucia during the next 24 hours.

Helene is among a glut of tropical storms brewing in the region, with mass evacuations under way in southern U.S. states as Florence barrels across Virginia and the Carolinas.
