But their bid for EGOT status was derailed when the Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics went to "Saturday Night Live" and their song "Come Back Barack" when Chance the Rapper was hosting.

Huge news for John Legend, as today, he finally managed to win an Emmy award thereby giving him an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony - otherwise known as the illustrious "EGOT" which is often considered hitting the pinnacle of success within the entertainment industry.

John Legend must be on cloud nine because as of right now, he is part of the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) club.

The singer struck gold at Sunday's Creative Arts Emmys, where Jesus Christ Superstar, Live in Concert was named Outstanding Variety Special.

John is the second fastest to complete the feat, doing so in 12 years - just two years' shy of composer Robert Lopez's record.

Richard Rodgers, Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, Gielgud, Audrey Hepburn, Marvin Hamlisch, Jonathan Tunick, Mel Brooks, Mike Nichols, Goldberg, Scott Rudin and Lopez are the first dozen EGOT winners. So amazed to be in such rarefied air.
