  • Liu Qiangdong. also known as Richard Liu is the chief executive and founder of the e-commerce giant

A sheriff's jail roster record from Minnesota's Hennepin County showed a man surnamed Liu with the given name of Qiangdong, the Chinese name for Richard Liu, was detained on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct on August 31 at 11:32 p.m.

The founder and chief executive of Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com Inc JD.O, Richard Liu, was arrested in the US state of Minnesota on a charge of criminal sexual conduct and later released, a county sheriff's department jail roster showed.

He was arrested shortly before midnight local time on Friday and was released just after 4 p.m. on Saturday, according to the website of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

"We made the decision to release him, that is not indicative of the strength of the evidence", John Elder, police public information officer, told the BBC. But he said he did not know the circumstances of the release and has not heard whether charges are on the way for Liu, who is also known as Richard Liu.

Zhang Shuhan, a JD.com official, said Monday by phone that "Liu Qiangdong has been released without charges and he is now back in China".

In addition, the new Xperia XZ3 from Sony and Blackberry Key 2 LE also take advantage of the shortcuts to trigger the Assistant. The Assistant is already available in a growing number of phones, and in an array of connected home devices.

This is not the first time Liu has been embroiled in a sexual misconduct incident.

University spokeswoman Emma Bauer in a statement declined to comment further and referred questions to Minneapolis police.

The company has been in and out of the red for the past year and last month reported a second-quarter net loss of $334.4 million - nearly twice that forecast in a Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S poll - reflecting increased investment.

Legal troubles for Liu could darken perceptions overall of JD.com, whose shares trade on the Nasdaq stock market in NY and have a market value of around US$50 billion.

Following the Chinese media accounts, JD.com said on its official microblog that the reports were untrue. In 2015, a model said she was sexually assaulted by a man after they had partied at Liu's Australian penthouse. Liu's party guest Longwei Xu was found guilty of indecent assault on a woman in July this year.
