  • Facebook launches social AR games for Messenger

Facebook has added augmented reality (AR) games in video chats of its Messenger app.

Despite the privacy scandal triggered by Cambridge Analytica, Facebook continues to be the main social media platform of internet users worldwide.

Just think: When your grandchildren ask you about the giddy heyday of augmented reality, you'll be able to tell them you flew through asteroids with your face.

Facebook has already had limited success in this area too, striking a deal with PayPal in October 2017 to allow Messenger users to transfer money, track transactions and shipping updates.

As part of the proposed deals, Facebook asked banks for information about where its users are shopping with their debit and credit cards outside of purchases they make using Facebook Messenger.

College hoops coach threw punch killing NYC tourist
Police said 35-year-old Sandor Szabo was punched in the face Sunday on 29th Street near 41st Avenue in Long Island City, Queens. The Philadelphia native is a 2008 graduate of Arkansas Tech. "We are going to miss him dearly".

When playing the game, you'll find a spaceship perched on your nose.

The aim of the game is to see who can keep a straight face for the longest. To load the games, open a conversation and tap the video icon in the upper right of the screen, then tap the star button and select the AR game.

The Journal's salacious headline said it all: "Facebook to Banks: Give Us Your Data, We'll Give You Our Users".

Facebook are planning to add more AR games in the coming weeks and months, including Beach Bump, where you need to hit the ball to each other, as well as a cat matching game called Kitten Kraze.

Early this week the Wall Street Journal claimed Facebook was sounding out major United States financial institutions over the possibility of accessing customers" banking information as a means of offering them "new services', such as fraud alerts and instant balance checks directly within Facebook Messenger. The company had recently introduced the video chat feature for its Messenger. Some of the first Snappables previewed by Snapchat include an Asteroids-style space shooter, a weightlifting one you play by straining your forehead, a bubble gum popping contest, an egg-catching competition, a kiss-blowing game, and a dance party.
