  • China Won't Release Disney's 'Christopher Robin' Movie

In 2014 social media users poked fun at the Chinese president's awkward handshake with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with an image of Winnie the Pooh shaking hands with Eeyore.

China's Culture Ministry declined to comment and referred questions to the State Administration of Radio and Television, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Disney's A Wrinkle in Time was also denied a release in China earlier this year, while the studio's new action film Mission Impossible: Fallout and Ant-Man and The Wasp were are among the Disney films which have opened there this year.

And despite being released around the world, fans of Winnie the Pooh living in China will not be able to enjoy watching the film. A small number of people have even used Pooh as a symbol of resistance. It started when Xi visited the U.S. in 2013 and an image of him and his former American counterpart Barack Obama walking together spurred comparisons to Winnie, a portly Xi, walking with Tigger, a lanky Obama.

'Time has come' to create US Space Force, sixth military branch: Pence
The Department will build a legislative proposal for congressional consideration as a part of the Fiscal Year 2020 budget cycle. Air Force officials and national security experts have spoken out against the creation of a separate Space Force .

No official reason for why the film was denied release has been given by the Chinese Film Board, but it could be because the famous creation of AA Milne, Pooh, has been juxtaposed next to Chinese leader Xi Jinping in viral memes shared across social media.

Other allusions include a popular comparison between a Winnie the Pooh auto toy image and the Chinese leader presiding over a military parade from the back of a moving vehicle. As comparisons grew, censors began erasing the images which mocked Xi. The images, seen by Reuters on Tuesday, had been blanked out on the site by Wednesday. "Make no mistake: All bears are created equal in Taiwan and (the Christopher Robin) movie is screening nationwide".

A second weekend total of 435 million was enough to make sure that the Tom Cruise franchise movie was at the top for a second weekend, the film now has a domestic United States total of $124.4 million after 10 days of release.

The new film tells the story of a now middle-aged Christopher Robin, whose mundane life takes a turn when he is unexpectedly reunited with the Hundred Acre Wood's Winnie-the-Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and other animals from his childhood. Instead of restricting the audience age, the country opted to ban the film altogether because of nudity, violence and graphic language.
