  • John Bolton Says North Korea Hasn't Done Much To Rid Itself Of Nuclear Weapons

North Korea on Thursday threatened to stall the denuclearization of its missile program if the US continues to abide by an "outdated acting script" amid Washington's calls to enforce sanctions against the regime.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with US President Donald Trump.

White House national security adviser John Bolton on Tuesday said North Korea has not taken the necessary steps to denuclearize despite an agreement between Pyongyang's leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump in June.

The two sides vowed to work towards North Korea's denuclearisation but have struggled to reach a deal to meet that goal, with the United States insisting sanctions pressure must be maintained during negotiations. Those followed contentious remarks last week by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho on the sidelines of a regional summit in Singapore.

The North Korean statement followed comments this week by top American diplomats stressing the need for Pyongyang to take additional steps toward denuclearisation.

The latest statement by the North's foreign ministry also accused U.S. officials of "going against the intention of President Trump" by "making baseless allegations against us and making desperate attempts at intensifying the global sanctions and pressure".

In the three matches between the two clubs last season, City won 9-1 on aggregate. Usually, Chelsea have a successful first year under a new sporting leadership.

The statement comes days after the U.S. stressed the need to keep up pressure on Pyongyang through tough sanctions imposed over its nuclear weapons programme.

"I can tell you we continue to have conversations virtually every day, every other day or so with the North Koreans", Heather Nauert, U.S. State Department spokeswoman, said Thursday "When I say 'conversations, ' that can be by phone, that can be my message, that can be by email".

"Expecting any result, while insulting the dialogue partner and throwing cold water over our honest efforts for building confidence which can be seen as a precondition for implementing the [North Korean]-U.S. joint statement, is indeed a foolish act that amounts to waiting to see a boiled egg hatch out", the statement read.

North Korea appears to continue dismantling a rocket launching site, a USA think tank said, based on satellite images. The United States cancelled a joint war exercise with South Korea that was due to take place this month while dismissing calls to ease sanctions until the North delivers on its commitments to fully denuclearize.

But the details of that process remain vague - North Korea did not commit to unilaterally give up its nuclear weapons and the United Nations says its nuclear programme is continuing.
