Dozens of children, most believed to be under the age of 10, have been killed after a Saudi-led coalition airstrike hit a school bus in northern Yemen Thursday.

The Saudi-led Coalition, which has been conducting a military campaign to oust the Houthi rebels, didn't immediately respond to CNN questions. He also accused Houthis of using kids as "tools and covers for their terrorist acts".

"This is yet another example of the blatant violations of global humanitarian law that we have seen in Yemen over the past three years-from indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks on civilians, denial of access to humanitarian aid and the use of starvation as a weapon of war-it's the people of Yemen, not the warring parties, who are paying the ultimate price".

It was unclear how numerous dead in total were children and how many air strikes were carried out in the area, in northern Yemen, near the border with Saudi Arabia.

Abdul-Ghani Nayeb, head of a health department in Saada, told Reuters that the death toll was to 43, with 61 wounded.

The International Committee of the Red Cross reported on Twitter that its medical team had received "the bodies of 29 children, all under 15 years old" and was treating "48 injured people, among them 30 children".

Russia: 'Horror' if Georgia joins NATO
"Georgia's accession to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation may trigger a awful conflict and lead to catastrophic consequences". The only United Nations member states to recognize the breakaway regions are Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Nauru.

The United States and other Western powers provide arms and intelligence to the alliance, and human rights groups have criticized them over coalition air strikes that have killed hundreds of civilians at hospitals, schools and markets.

The Iran-aligned Houthis regularly fire into Saudi Arabia and have targeted its capital, Riyadh, with ballistic missiles.

Fragments from a missile launched at the Jizan Industrial City in southern Saudi Arabia late on Wednesday, killed one Yemeni civilian and wounded 11, Saudi state media said earlier on Thursday. Turki al-Malki said the attack was "a legitimate military action, conducted in conformity with global humanitarian law". The statement accused the Houthis of using children as human shields.

In the Yemeni capital, rebel-run Al Masirah TV gave a different number, saying the attack killed 39 people and wounded 51, mainly children.

He said the leaders and militants responsible for launching ballistic missiles and targeting civilians would be held accountable as part of the coalition's efforts to prevent terrorist elements from compromising regional and global security.

Saada, the main stronghold of the Houthis, has mainly come under air strikes from the coalition in Yemen's war, as the mountainous province makes battles hard for pro-government ground troops.

The US, the United Kingdom and other Western powers have been providing arms and intelligence to the alliance in the course of the war, which has unleashed the world's worst humanitarian crisis in Yemen, according to the UN.
